We are proud to announce that our new modular soft-seating system SOFT ROCK has been awarded the German Design Award 2022 in the “Excellent Product Design” category. This line of soft seating, created by the Danish design studio Strand + Hvass, helps create a relaxing environment in the office both for work and for rest.
The German Design Award is presented by the German Design Council — one of the world’s leading centres in the field of design. This year the jury included more than 35 professionals in design, branding and communications, who assessed the overall concept of the contenders, including environmental sustainability, aesthetics, durability and functionality.
“We are very glad and grateful to the jury of the German Design Council for this award. We also want to congratulate the NARBUTAS team and thank them for believing in our concept,” said the creators of SOFT ROCK, designers Christina Strand and Niels Hvass. “Our team continued to work despite the pandemic and managed to find innovative solutions for a new product. We would never have received this award were it not for the determination of all these wonderful people.”
The new generation of employees inspired the Danish design studio Strand + Hvass to create a collection that reflects the changes in office spaces and in the people who work there.
“From the very beginning, we tried to determine the needs of the new generation. We racked our brains for a long time over how and in what places these people would prefer to work. What you see now is the result of these efforts. We turned into workplaces not only desks but also soft armchairs in rest areas. It should be noted that demand for calmer, more relaxed workspaces continues to grow, and at the same time a need for constant movement arises,” said Niels Hvass and Christina Strand.
In creating SOFT ROCK, the Strand + Hvass studio drew inspiration from nature: the designers observed how sea waves wash over the cliffs and stones on the shore, making them smoother and more rounded. The combination of rounded shapes and straight lines helps create a unique, eye-catching yet simple design. A distinctive laconic silhouette is what sets SOFT ROCK apart from other soft seating.
