We are delighted to announce that the NORTH CAPE executive chair has been awarded the prestigious Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021. This chair was created in cooperation with the Italian design duo Baldanzi & Novelli.
As a rule, the members of the Red Dot Award jury are most interested in innovation and the quality of the design. They consider such aspects as aesthetics, the choice of materials, the exterior finish, the structure, ergonomics and functionality of the nominated products, and reach a common decision as to which of them are most worthy of the award. The jury members work in groups of three. Each group considers its own nominations. Often, in the process of reaching decisions, lively debates and detailed expert discussions begin.
“Usually it is very easy to recognise whether we are dealing with quality design or not,” says Simon Husslein, a member of the Red Dot jury and founder of Atelier Simon Husslein. He works on developing products, furniture and installations, as well as spatial design. Since 2017, Mr Husslein has also taught interior architecture at the Geneva College of Art and Design (HEAD – Genève).
According to Red Dot CEO Professor Dr Peter Zec, the jury received many entries that stood out for their exceptional design and functionality.

The NORTH CAPE executive chair is a combination of exceptional refinement and modern elegance. The Italian design studio Baldanzi & Novelli Designers was inspired to create it by the hills of Tuscany in winter. This chair collection was first presented by NARBUTAS in 2017. Last year our designers expanded it and also developed a new executive chair model, which received an international award.
“In the design of NORTH CAPE, strictness and laconism combine with soft lines that flow into a single smooth curve. We decided to expand this collection, making the chair more comfortable but without changing the original design. Simply adding padding to an existing product is not our style. We wanted to create something completely unique,” said Adriano Baldanzi, a member of the Italian design duo. “We had the idea of creating horizontal lines. We arranged the lines as if they were a musical rhythm and created a design distinguished by remarkable simplicity.”
About the Red Dot Design Award
So that the jury members have the opportunity to assess the full variety of design novelties with maximum professionalism, the Red Dot Design Award is divided into three categories — Red Dot Award: Product Design, Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design and Red Dot Award: Design Concept. The Red Dot Award, which to date has more than 18,000 entries submitted, is one of the largest design awards in the world. The jury, whose aim was to evaluate the best designs of its time, first convened in 1955. In the 1990s, Prof. Dr Peter Zec, who currently holds the position of Red Dot CEO, came up with the name and brand for this award. Since then, the Red Dot Award has become one of the most sought-after and coveted awards and has been recognised as an international mark of quality in the field of design. The laureates of the award can be found in annual publications, museums and on the internet.
